As the infrastructure for power transmission and information transmission, wires' safety performance is crucial. Qualified wires should have a variety of safety properties to ensure that fire, electric shock and other dangerous situations do not occur during use. Understanding the safety properties that wires need to have can help us ensure the safety of ourselves and our equipment when selecting and using wires.

Insulating properties:

The insulation material of wires is the key to ensuring the safety of power transmission. The insulating material should have a high resistance to stop the leakage of current. Common insulation materials include polyvinyl chloride (PVC), cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), etc., which have good insulation properties in different environments and uses.

Good electrical conductivity:

Conductors are the transmission channels for current, and generally use excellent conductive materials such as copper or aluminum. The larger the cross-sectional area of the wire, the stronger the current transmission capability, but at the same time, cost and usage environment need to be considered. In addition, the surface of the wire needs to be smooth to reduce the resistance during current transmission and ensure efficient conduction of the wire.

Heat resistance:

Wires are often subject to some temperature effects, especially at higher currents. Therefore, the material of the wire should have good heat resistance to prevent the insulation material from melting or deforming, causing the risk of short circuit or leakage of the wire.

Fire resistance:

When wires are exposed to fire, they should be able to maintain stable performance for a certain period of time to gain more time for emergency response. Flame-retardant wires use flame-retardant materials, which can slow down the burning speed of wires when a fire occurs and reduce the impact of fire on the surrounding environment.

Chemical corrosion resistance:

Chemical corrosion factors exist in some special environments, and wires should have certain chemical corrosion resistance to ensure their stable operation in harsh environments.

Mechanical strength:

Wires need to have sufficient mechanical strength to resist external physical forces such as squeezing, stretching, and bending. Mechanical damage can expose internal conductors of wires, increasing the risk of electric shock and fire.

Anti-interference performance:

In the field of information transmission, wires need to have certain anti-interference performance to prevent external electromagnetic interference from affecting signal transmission. Shielded cables and fiber optic cables are some common options that can effectively reduce external interference.

Standards compliant:

Qualified wires should comply with relevant national or regional standards and regulations and pass testing and verification by certification agencies. This helps ensure that wires meet safety performance requirements during design, production and use.

Overall, the safety performance of wires is key to maintaining the stable operation of power systems and information transmission systems. Selecting the appropriate wire and paying attention to its conductivity, insulation, heat resistance, fire resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, anti-interference and other properties are important steps to ensure the safe and reliable use of the wire.
